The best bedchairs in the UK

Wide, weight-rated bedchairs that will not sag by session two.

The bedchair is the piece of kit you spend the most hours actually touching, and the one where cheap kit fails fastest. A folding leg mechanism that costs £200 in the shop is a £15 casting from an Alibaba supplier; the frame either holds up or it does not, and there is no way to tell before it fails.

What actually matters when buying bedchairs

The specs that decide whether the kit lasts a decade or lets you down mid-session. Everything else is marketing.

Declared max user weight

The only spec that actually matters. Aim for at least 30 kg above your body weight to account for kit stored on the bed, dynamic loads, and long-term frame fatigue.

Frame material

6061-T6 aluminium is the entry standard for anything above £180. Steel is heavier but tougher; magnesium alloys on Nash Indulgence and Trakker RLX save weight at premium price.

Mattress thickness

10-15 cm quilted padding with hollow-fibre or memory foam. Below 8 cm and the frame bars will telegraph through by 3am.

Adjustable legs and level feet

Individually adjustable legs are essential on UK swims - bank slopes, tree roots and grass tussocks are the norm, not the exception.

How much should you spend

Four price bands, four different levels of what you're buying. Pick by what you can afford to sacrifice, not what you'd like to have.

Common questions

Six-leg or eight-leg?

Eight legs distribute load better but add weight and pack size. If you're over 100 kg or fish soft ground, go eight. Under 90 kg on firm banks, six is fine.

Do I really need memory foam?

Not essential, but the price gap has narrowed. On sessions longer than 48 hours or if you have back issues, it is a genuine comfort upgrade rather than a marketing tick.
